Re: 培僑書院
Hello all,
My son is in class 1P. Pls keep in touch to share and exchange views. At the beginning my wife and me do have a guinea pig feel as we were not educated in such a teaching mode. After a month I am fully confident that the school is really putting effort to work against its vision statement. My son loves his primary school life very much and got no problem in adapting this new envirnoment.
About homework, I think Heidibaba did talk a lot, I specially admire the 'My day book' as a sort of interactive 'homework' (need parent's participation and feedback) and the modular structure of the 'Social Development Class'. If parents under application to P1 are interested, I can probably scan some materials for reference and post it on to the web.
In addition, each month there will be a off-campus visit tour. Teaching is more or less in the same as kindergarten using different themes for weeks. The school provides an envirnoment for language learning as teachers/students are speaking English and Putonghua.
Recall to the interview last year, as told by my son there were five parts, totally 1.5 hrs duration:
1. Chinese & English writings using pencil.
2. Read five English words.
3. Read five Chinese words using Putonghua.
4. Draw a picture.
5. Teacher will tell an english story and students to answer relevant questions.
Parents also needed to attend group discussion. I'd say attenance of daddy & mami simultaneous is important. Topics are open ended situational case studies seeking for parents' option in how to react if your child was involved.
We did not include any 'recommendation letter' or 'portfilio' during application, just to fill in the application form will be fine.
