ac602,
The Teen Explorer programme focus on four areas: Teamwork, Caring, Independence and Skills.
The activities include jumping into the sea from the pier, camping, cooking, treasure hunting, hiking by map-reading and very limited guidance, rock-climbing, canoeing, sharing and reflection etc.
These activities are quite challenging for young boys and girls. As long as your boy is participative and wants to get something from the training, it’s good for him. It doesn’t matter whether he is 細膽 or not and confident or not. Very often, being not confident is only a habit or merely a “label”. When you put him into a new environment, meeting new people, doing new things, he will dare to do a change.
My son told me some members really scared of jumping into the sea. A boy even pretended not able to swim in order not to jump. But, the game rule was those who had jumped into the sea could not come up until all ten members jumped into the sea. Then, those who were floating in the water had to encourage those standing on the pier. Eventually, all jumped, and all could swim well in the sea. After the first jump, all became excited and enjoyed their second jump, third jump and even asking for more.
That’s the change.
In the final day, all members needed to reflect and share what they achieved and whether they deserved a small pin which symbolized their achievements. By doing these, I do believe you son will find his strengths.
