We paid for it last year, because like you said they ask for it before the ESF play visit.

We ended up going to ESF and gave up the deposit.

They would not give you an extension, because they know well that they are asking for the deposit before ESF admission procedure.  I don't want to accuse them, but I think they make a lot of money this way.

I think it is a fair deal though and it gives you a chance to think "seriously" whether Anfield is your choice.  Many pals just pay a small amount to "hold" the offer from the school that they don't really want to go for it.  Anyway, if you want to play the game you have to follow the rules.  If you don't want to play, don't blame the school for your selfishness.

Agreed!

& I really want to know which kindergarten is NOT "commercial" in HK?!

Obviously, Anfield is not your cup of tea.  You can just simply reject the offer, not paying anything and waiting for the offer from your desired school.  It's always your own choice.  Anfield is charging 11K deposit in the hope of having parent who seriously consider his/her own choice.

We try to stay away from "commercial" schools.  If Anfield is charging 11k deposit per child only in the hope to forfeit it, then we really need to think twice about choosing it, no matter how nice a  ...

I knew before I applied to Anfield that it is a school owned by teachers who had previously taught in ESF.  It's also an alternative to many Cat 1 parents with priority in Kowloon Tong and East Kowloon area.

My first choice last year was Abacus, because I liked the school and Anfield had always served as the back-up.  I knew we would have got into ESF without a sweat, but you never know... ESF is like that, so I paid the deposit, as a security.

it is strange people applied to Anfield and said the child did not join the pre_K course and did not visit the school before they submitted the application.  They knew nothing about Anfield and submitted the application for their children (just discovered from the website) ??

ESF also requests two months school deposit.  The parents have no problems in paying the deposit but they have reservation for Anfield and said Anfield is "commercial".   Of course, Anfield receives the deposits before ESF make an offer.  It is your choice to pay deposits.

If you are still interested in Anfield (though I don't think so), you can request for a school visit before paying the deposit.  That's what I did before.  They extended the offer for a week and were happy to let us have a school visit before the deposit payment.  They do have a school open day though but we missed it at that time.

You can't blame the school for not feeding you the information.  It is your own responsibility to get the info from the school in order for you to make a decision.  The most direct way is to call them or email them (if something that you want to know but is not publicly available).
