One of my students scores highest, but still only got 7. Some others got 3-4.
Questions are changed. 3 parts were covered in the question, my ideas were as follow:
1) Keys of triads:
I guess they should be reading a piano score, it's not so easy for them to get the keys correct if they without training in learning key changes, this is quite new BUT it has already covered in 2006 question paper. eg. 2006 B 3(b)(ii)
They asked to give certain key of a chord. If those who just train from doing pastpaper, this will not be covered as you just have 1 question.
2) Identifying Chords:
Please refer to 2006 C 4(b)(iii)
Somehow another new type of question: you are ask to give suggestion to those notes were in what chord. Meaning you should name its key, not I, II, IV, V !!!
Even some so-called grade 8 theory holder didn't do that well in their grade 8 exam!! (in some case my grade 8 students were in fact a theory teacher!)
3) Naming Notes:
This should be the easiest part, naming notes from C to B only, but should with # or b, or natural. I guess most students got 3-4 points were from here!
A good theory teacher should read in-depth to new papers and changes of syllbus, do prepare for some new challenges, and sometime you have to do your notes, rather than just using those old books. The "Music Theory in Practice" were published in 1990, 17 years ago la.......
Further information could be made after I talk with all my students, I still have to make some phone calls.

Wait for the publication of past paper then we'll see. (Unless there are some elder ones that are able to tell us precisely how the questions is like.) |
