I live in Tai Po but still haven't found a good violin teacher for my son. His current teacher is not bad but I just don't feel like his skill has been improved much. She has taught him for 6 months already and she is his second teacher already.

He plans to take grade 3 exam in April. Can some moms recommend your good teacher for us? I hope he likes violin more if his skill can be improved.

I have to "push" him to practice everyday! Sometimes, I want to stop his violin lesson but then he said "I like to learn but just don't like to practice..."

Is 葉氏 good? There is one location in shatin but I wonder how they work. They said I need to join a group lesson (7 - 12 people) and then a private lesson will be arranged with teacher? I don't understand how they work. Any mom can share own experience?

7 to 10 children will attend group lesson every week, you pay every 3 months, around $700 per month. After a while, (normally 6 months), those are still interested will continue the group lesson and the teacher will also offer private lesson(1 to 1) each week, fee varies with different teachers. In other words, after the 1st 6 mths, your kid will attend 2 lessons every week, i.e. 1 group lesson and 1 private lesson.

By the way, how old is your son? How long does he practice each day? Is he using suzuki violin book?

Thanks, your info sounds like for beginners only. My son is 9 and has been learning for 2 yrs now. I ask him to practice 30 mins but he always bargains for less. So now, I end up asking him to play each song 3 - 5 times. Sometimes, he plays longer.

Yes, he is using suzuki vol.2.

Actually, he enjoys playing the violin but just doesn't like to practice every day regularly.

Not just for beginners, your son may join an existing group which suits his level, but of course the teacher will need to test his skill level before placing him to the right class, but need to warn you in advance, Yips is very fast moving, it's not easy to keep up. Normally they start teaching Book 2 right after 1st year.
