How about International Secondary school?

Dear All,

My elder son is now in west island school and my second one is now in grade 6 in ESF. Can anyone share with me about the choices in international secondary school? I still have a choice for my second one to choose between island school and west island school. Which one is better? I choose WIS for my elder son as all his classmates go up in the same school.

May all mothers/fathers kindly advice.

Would you please share your views on choosing WIS or IS? Since you are an "insider" of WIS, you can enhance our understanding of it. By the way, have you got any other information and comments on IS, e.g. from other parents?

Being an insider of WIS, I would say this is a good school. Last year,  the whole school was involved with selection of new Principal and even students can voice out their opinion.

I have the chance of visiting IS and WIS. WIS is a new school with a new wing recently built. The hardware infrastructure is excellent. Whereas in IS, the hardware is not satisfactory. I overheard IS is going to rebuild in the coming years.

I heard from other parents that WIS is better than IS so I choose WIS for my first son as all his classmates go to WIS. My personal opinion is that WIS does not pay particular attention to academic result. It aims more on all round development; ie sport, cultural, racial tolerance etc. I am personally satisfied with the examination result in WIS. Through the ESF news, IS do have very bright students and get top result in GCSE and keen to take part in interschool events.

I really don't know my observation is correct or not.

Hi candacetlam,

Many thanks for your sharing. It is very happy that your boy is in a good school already, while what you are going to do is to see which one is better for another boy.

You talked about "all round development; ie sport, cultural, racial tolerance etc.". What is the racial composition of students in WI and IS, that is, what are percentages of students in terms of different ethnicities or home countries? Which one has higher percentage of expatriate students? (Thus, local Chinese boys and girls can benefit from the mutilcultural environment)  

By the way, how about the family backgrounds of the IS students and WS students? Are IS (or WI)students more obviously from the families with high social position? Do they have a distinguising way of living? (Thus, consider the environment to foster children to become educated and to have expected life styles).
