My friend told me RC is very "hea" ... very little homework and learning in classroom is very slow paced in classroom.   The Chinese Department teaching is very basic.   Also, they always talk about money' pay for everything like teaching material, stationary, even insurance.   Is this true I want to find out more before apply!

My boy is Yr 3 in RC. I don't have kids in other schools for comparison. But I don't think RC is very "hea".

They emphasis a lot on reading. Since yr 2, he has to read a short Chinese story online everyday (Monday to Sunday). He also has to write a "weekly report" in Chinese (usually around a few pages) every other week. RC uses Chinese books from local primary schools. 1 thing to note is RC teaches traditional Chinese, while other ESF schools (including SJS) teach simplifed version. My husband asked the Chinese Dept Head last year, and he said that their Chinese level will be close to local primary school around Yr 6, and may be 1 yr behind local secondary school when they graduate, which I am fine with.

I don't think they ask for money all the time. I paid in general around $1000-1200 for all books, stationery, school acitivities for the whole year. All other donations are really voluntary.

無端端抛句、真係費解。 估計小朋友都不在両間読書。

1) No home work except book report in Y1; playing is the most important thing for young ones.
2) Chinese is basic but there will be 3 groups with different goals. The advanced one will be same as local school's standard at last. ( IBDP)
3) The extra charges make sense, just like the exercise book, field trip, visits.
Anyway, you'd better ask your friend about the IB curriculum, the assessment, the teachers' quality and the learning atmosphere. And you'd better join a school tour to feel the school from your own view.

Generally speaking, it's quite tough for Year 6 with lots of homework every week. From Year 7 onwards, there's even more workload for MYP. Honestly the workload for junior forms is low/optimal because of the different focuses, I guess (little homework for P3, some for P4, a little more for P5 but suddenly a lot for P6). Because of the nature of MYP (at RC) that requires in-depth study... students have to keep working with lots of work for both in class and homework...but the British UK curriculum is done in a different way with a large range of subjects  with "width" but not "depth"(not required to go deep...). By the way, MYP requires the students to take the initiative to work. If the student is interested in the research topic, it can turn out to be a thesis or even a book that the student writes, but it could be "hea" to the one who shows no interest or is lazy. It really depends. Whether it is "hea" or not depends very much on the individual students...

As for RC Chinese homework, upper primary students have to do "online daily reading with questions that follow" every day (exactly the same practice for local school students), Chinese workbook (that goes with the textbook) when one unit is done, and diary writing or a book report (alternatively). And sometimes students have to give Chinese oral presentations about the IB Unit of Inquiry.
