Do you consider to encourage your son to do more sports activities?  If a kid can run 100M in 12 seconds and 5KM -10KM per week, how can he be 懦弱?  That's a big achievement beside acadamy.

7,

Reading your response (and other posts), I must admit that you do have a GIFT in seeing the "good" in every "not so good" situation.

If getting "moral education" for your son from Hannibal is a good enough justification for you to approve reading this book, then i think you will never have to worry about what your son read.

After all, at least he will learn some new words, good or bad.

Before you get all defensive when people talked about the books your kid is reading, you should seriously look at these books.

I guess you really don't know much about the Hannibal story.

"Hannibal" is not "Pride and prejudice". Hannibal is an adult psycho thriller. Its only purpose is to entertain adults. There are no moral story in it to learn from.

Dr Hannibal, the protagonist, is a serial killer who literally feeds on his victims (Hannibal the cannibal). He escaped from prison and was never caught again. Bad people with NO bad ending.

Wouldn't you say this is not a suitable story for a primary kid.

"Hannibal" is no "The Da Vinci Code" (Dan Brown). In my opinion, it's like comparing Class IIB to III.

This review is from: Hannibal (Paperback)
With Hannibal, Thomas Harris has given us a great comic novel that is "beyond good and evil." In this highly entertaining novel, Mr. Har ...

That is exactly what I've been thinking.

Just because kids are "capable" of reading adult books doesn't mean all adult books are suitable for them.

The Hannibal books are strictly adult fiction. They contain graphical violence, sex, bad language and adult themes NOT suitable for children. Period. (I have read the books myself so I know exactly what's in it).

7777777:

I believe your kid is only around P6, please help him to choose other young adult fiction (adventures / mysteries /etc) instead.

Freakonomics is quite an interesting books. I like the Chapter on drug dealing. It should be read by teenagers who'd like to 行古惑 or to become a so-called artist in the entertainment industry。The chapter on naming children has said something I have been telling my friends for years whenever they ask me for opinions how to name their children. I always ask them to learn from the royal family in England.

Thanks for replying me.

Hannibal Trilogy consists of Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lamb, and Hannibal written by Thomass Harris.  Your son must be a super reader to enjoy psychological thrillers.

Hi 77777,

The books written by Dan Brown and Hannibal series do suit teens at age between 12-18 and adults, when Oxford Reading Tree suits kids age 3-7.    I got confusion that you have tried to persuade your son to read Oxford Reading tree since he has become a free reader long ago to enjoy Dan Brown.

uncleedward,
