Dear ALL DBSPD parents,

Could you pls let us have some information about the monthly expenditure for studying in DBSPD (besides of the school fee+school bus fee).  

Heard that the discipline of P.5-6 in DBSPD is not that good, do anyone can advise what you know about this topic??

校車也這星期開始遲了一些，但也是遲了10分鐘內，而且保姆十分好，經常會送禮物給囝囝，所以囝囝亦十分喜歡這位校車保姆。若你囝囝校車遲了30分鐘，那便十分大問題啦﹗快d問校車公司啦﹗

Thanks a lot Didima, noted the school fee and bus fare and just want to check what a mother normally spend for the kid for the supplementary courses (Eng/Maths/Putonghua/Music/Swimming/others).  Will musical/sport are complusory activities for the kids, and how much will the school charge for these kinds of activities.  And heard from some sources that there will be a lot of 捐獻, extra 補習，as some teachers won't teach much in the class.  Do you think we have to spend HK$10,000.- per month for a kid studying DBSPD?  That's what I concern!  As a parent, I am just thinking, if we can pay the basic school fee+school bus fee (let say HK$5k-6k/month), but if it really involves HK$10k/month, then we have to think even the school accept the kid (of course, the acceptance is only an assumption), but information collection like this is also important in considering a primary school.  Pls understand and thank you very much for your sharing.

我好想請教你們各位男小拔的媽咪一些問題, 真的希望你們可幫我, 我自己最心儀的小學就是男小拔, 因為它的成績好好, 英文又好, 音樂運動又出色, 但雖然我是好鐘意呢間學校, 但我想知我自己的小朋友會否應付到在一所咁出色, 有咁多精英的學校生活, 在未決他入讀什麼類型(即活動或國際學校或本地學校) 的學校之前, 各位可否指教我呢?

1.        我想請問男小拔是否一間好谷讀書的學校呢?  每日是否好多只著重抄寫, 不著眼創作的功課呢?  你們的小朋友有沒有投訴過功課很多, 令到他們透不過氣呢? 他們每日要用多少時間做功課呢?

2.        學校會否常要小朋友背全課中文, 之後就只抽一節要小朋友背默, 我就知一些小學的老師是每星期都要小朋友背全課書, 我就覺得常要背課文, 真的浪費了小朋友去看書, 彈琴, 繪畫或者去幻想的時間, 不知小拔會否這樣呢?

3.        另外, 我想問小拔是否真的一所“貴族”學校, 是否大部份小朋友的父母都是醫生, 律师, 或有錢人家, 我們只是小康之家, 不知小朋友會否在這環境學習產生一些冇型的壓力.

4.        最後我想請問你們的小朋友是不是好鐘意返學, 好鐘意自己的學校生活, 而各位媽咪对學校又有什麼好滿意和好不滿意呢?

Dear Applepie,

My son is now studying in P.4 and he entered DBSPD last year.

Referring to your questions:

1. The amount of homework is optimal, about 3-4 each day.  Copying is limited to 1 or 1.5 page only (Chinese writing). They have journal or 創意寫作 every other week with no fixed topic.  Usually my son can finish his work in 15-45 minutes.  Also, the kids have time to do their homework at school also.

2. So far, my son only recited one chapter of the Chinese textbook but that is a poem.

3. I cannot deny that many parents are upper class or professionals, but still there are lots of working dads and moms like us, who are only middle class parents.

4. Yes, my son likes to go to school and I can feel that he is proud of his school and proud of being one of the DBSPD students!  Being a new school, I am satisfied with the management and I personally concur most with the school curriculum and the efficiency of the teaching team!

Hope the above could give you some hints.

Sorry for late reply. Here is my answer :

1) They don't have much homework. Usually 1-3 types per day. Like this weekend, my son only has 1 homework in Mathematics and he need 10 miniutes to finish.

2) So far, he still hasn't any Chinese Dictation but as per other mother's information, they don't need to 背默. For homework, they don't need to do huge repeat writting. They will write the vocabulary 4 times after they finished the chapter. If he write anything wrong, teacher will point out the mistake and ask him to write the word once only.

3) Our family cannot be classified as 貴族. My husband is an engineer manager only. You can say he is professional but not like doctor or lawyer.

4) My son enjoys to go to school very much because they have variety subject which he feel interesting. Like for every Friday, they have elective lessons. He can choose whatever subject he wants so this can open his mind further. For these subjects, he doesn't need to do test or exam. Just for fun and knowledge. This is also the reason I select this school for my son.

Currently, we all have to 適應 the primary school life and it will not be fair to comment about the school in this early stage but the most important is we all know school care our boys and opinion. This is more important than anything.
