My kid's friends at SIS came from all sorts of kindergarten, some from local Cantonese/English ones like Lingnan, some from local international ones like Victoria, some from pure English ones like Small World & Woodland, some from pure Mandarin ones like Kiangsu. Some came from abroad. But I have heard along the grapevine that those who went to local ones had extra English classes after school. Some even went to two schools per day! Not all of them of course, but quite a number of them did. In fact, most of the PY1 students I met can talk in English or Mandarin like natives. So, prepare well.

sis都屬教署管, 有固定的班及每班人數都有規範! 由於幾年前加建了幾層,所以比較多班房!

如果妳想睇下每級有幾班,可以visit sis的網頁,organisation個part列晒每班的班主任,妳便可以知道有幾多班...有遞減的情況因以前沒有中學及當然還有很多原因...

sis中學是4-2制,跟住考gce,讀完後如果想考香港的大學應該是用non-jupas入大學,好像其他國際學校一樣吧!(其實我亦不大清楚,因很多讀國際學校的人都是為將來去外國升學做準備,如果想考香港的大學,可能讀local有些名的中學比較好吧)

我大女以前k1讀方方,英文班是native的老師教,我想可以基本明白及跟到指示做,不用廣東話回答便有很大的機會...細女的英文是靠工人和家姐同佢講,見佢都可以明白到基本的要求...

很欣賞妳咁快便為小朋友的學習做好準備呀!

我在english learning center 做part time tutor, 見到每日好多學生放左學仲要用2-3個鍾來上tutorial, 做功課,比我地check, 同埋佢地根本唔明d書講緊mug, 我好怕自己個囝將來都係咁, 唔明可以慢慢教,但最慘係返完學己好
仲要返tutorial, 簡直係對精神折磨, 所以想個囝返學可以輕鬆得來又學到野....

香港的教育己唔同以前啦,我以前一直都冇留意香港教育, 所以真係要早小小同小朋友鋪路啦.

When I studied at HKU as a non-Jupas, I paid the same amount as all my Jupas friends. I think (not 100% sure though), the difference between Jupas and non-Jupas entry is that Jupas doesn't require interviews, whilst non-Jupas definately requires interviews. Don't take my words for it though, you can always call up the university admission offices and ask.

sis用新加坡local的書,所以可以說是行新加坡的制度;需要dictation,中英都要,中文多些,也有中英作文(from p1);考試一,二年班考一次試,3-6年班考兩次試;會有排名,但只有1-3名有信通知要參加prize presentation才知道,其他名次就不知道.

對不起,由於未讀過 real international school with westerna countries's education approach,所以不能比較.

所以都想聽下 real international school with westerna countries's education approach是怎樣教學的,是否真的不用做功課及考試呢?

原來妳是tutor,想請教妳點樣可以令小朋友的中英作文好些,不會寫得太白,太平舖直載;今星期見英文老師,她發現我個女的英文作文有d問題,我發現不單英文,其實中文都有問題,她的問題不是寫不到字,她每次都作300多字,但係就太白. 我以為看多些課外書有幫助,但她也有看...會不會同她的mind set是理科人有關呢?因為科學和數學她很容易掌握, 有方法嗎?

我都只係開始了tutor生涯冇耐,不要用請教啦,相信你育兒心得會比我好好多,將來我相信我有更多地方要你指教.

我係讀文科出生,其實囡囡睇多d文章會唔會好d呢,唔單要睇,仲要學下用人地的詞彙, 短句, 片語etc... 真係要多睇多practise 先可以build up vocab 同造句呀... 或者你可以試下同佢一起睇文,然後highlight 比較生動/精彩/有趣的句子,等佢可以記入腦之餘,仲等佢知點樣先係好的寫作/形容/修辭但記得最好唔好copy,因為咁(我個人覺得)會令小朋友冇咗自己的創作, 只會變咗copycat (噢, 希望你唔會覺得我講得太公式化啦)

另外,家長可以同小朋友傾計時,用多d生動的表達, eg, 見到塞車,你可以話d車排埋一起,好似條蛇咁... 久而久之, 或許對小朋友有幫助, 小朋友的思想係無限的,可以發揮得好大,但都要視乎外在點幫佢/影響嫁

我想同囝囝報woodland, 由 playgroup, stepping stone 到preschool, 但woodland 只有preschool 才教普通話,其它都係英文, 如果成功入了sis, 囝囝在4歲前的中文(reading)可以話係零,咁會唔會追唔上sis的普通話呢? (esp. on reading/writing.)

如果追唔上,我考慮同佢報一d有國際班的nursery and kindergarten,可以教埋中文,現時只係知道西環卓基有國際班, 唔知你仲知唔知邊d學校有呢? (我住在西營盤) 堅道有迦南,但唔肯定迦南的小朋友學什麼language....

希望你可以比到意見我啦,如果py1的普通話對一個冇閱讀中文底的小朋友係可以應付的話, 咁我可以考慮woodland啦.

PY1 Open House. Although it's not as big function as fun fair, still value to get a rough idea for PY.

Yesterday was the PTC (Parent-Teacher Conference), there was a small book fair outside the school bookstore.  Many parents (included me) bought some extra execise books with 20% discount for our children to do. If there is one in April, you can ask the bookstore manager to introduce some VCD to your child.  She is always willing to help.

讀woodland最大的好處是英文好,interview時就沒有問題了.至於中文,py1其實是他們的第一年入學,學校都唔會expect太多,妳可以在家教下囝囝,叫佢寫d連線及簡單的字,我個女依家學校寫緊:一,十,土,4,7字等,都是很簡單的...不過要有心理準備,他英文越強,抗拒學中文的機會就越大,到時中文就會學得很辛苦了...如果妳是香港人,覺得中文都重要,可能自己就要帶佢多d去圖書館,讀多d中文故事書他聽!

我以前都住西盈盤,妳可以考慮下寶翠園那間victoria!

加拿大國際的學費應該比新加坡國際平,還有ESF就更平,在西環也有幼稚園的...

There is a french kindergarten (part of FIS) opposite the ESF kindergarten in Sheung Wan, if you consider ESF, may as well consider FIS as well :) You can probably find some information on FIS's website. The kindergarten is brand new, only started operating this  current academic year.

ESF kindergarten is not that difficult to get in, you just have to remember to submit your application at the right time. Their Mandarin is near to non-existent I am afraid.

1 once i submit application form to sis for PY1, what is the chance for having an interview?  (my friend told me for some international schools, even though you submit the form, you maynot get a chance of interview! hope sis is not one of them)

2 from PY2 to primary, is interview required?

女女被學校選了訓練奧數比賽的CCA,有"機會"參加比賽,由於之前Chior要比賽,所以很少參加到奧數的練習,本來想在坊間買些練習給她practice,但都是中文,妳知道那裡有英文的奧數題目賣嗎?謝謝先!
