For CDNIS:
Stream A 繁體中文教學
Stream B 簡體中文教學
They start streaming the students starting from Grade 1 (so they observe and decide on the streaming of each child by the end of the Prep year). Stream A is mainly for children with Chinese exposure outside of school, say within their own families or heavy daily Chinese tutoring. Stream B is mainly for expat families with minimal Chinese exposure.
Both streams will further break down into higher & lower levels (therefore A1, A2, B1, B2 - I forgot their official names), depending on the child's level of chinese. Usuallyt A1 are for Mandarin speaking students or Cantonese families with additional help, and A2 are for the more westernized Chinese families. The further up they go, the more it depends on the individual child's level of written chinese and spoken mandarin.
All in all, the school does try to cater to families with various expectations in terms of Chinese learning, and hence allows for a mixed ethnic population while having a better Chinese program then most International schools (not counting the Private Independent Schools and CIS). |
